SHAH ALAM: She is only 11 years old but Megan Elizabeth Teoh is already thinking about representing Malaysia at the Olympics one day.
And the “little dynamite” took the first meaningful step towards achieving her goal when she pulled off a clean sweep for Selangor in the girls’ 12 and under age-group in the MSSM (national schools) diving championships at the Shah Alam Aquatic Centre yesterday.
Megan won the 3m springboard competition with a total of 200.15 points. It was her second gold medal, having won the 1m springboard on Wednesday.
“This is my best achievement so far. I took part in my first MSSM meet in Kota Kinabalu last year. I got a silver in the 1m springboard and bronze in the 3m springboard,” said Megan, who started diving when she was just seven and is now under the Selangor development programme.
There is no doubt where she wants to be when she grows up.
“I want to qualify for and compete at the Olympics one day. I want to be like Bryan Nickson Lomas, who has won many medals and made our country proud,” she said.
Ng Zheng Hao gave Selangor more joy when he bagged the boys’ 3m springboard title in 13-15 age-group. He garnered 269.45 points for his second gold after finishing tops in the 1m springboard on Wednesday.
